move + sign on polarized cap silkscreen?

I'm using Eagle 6.1.0.  I have some polarized caps on my PCB that have + symbols next to the positive pad.  The problem is, the symbols are interfering with other pads, and I'd like to move the symbols.  In the component layout in the library, the + symbols are on the tPlace layer.  I've tried smashing the component, but this only allows me to move the designator.  Is there a way to move text on the tPlace layer, or do I have to go into the library and move the symbol over to the tNames layer?

    In EAGLE, ONLY such designators can be moved. To be able to move the

    plus sign, do the following in the library (awkward, but should work):

      1. Create your part with a custom ATTRIBUTE called, e.g., 'PLUS',

         being defined as constant (NOT variable), and which holds the

         text '+' in its value.

      2. Change the '+' text of your text to '>PLUS', effectively

         creating an attribute display out of it.

     

    That's it. When NOW you smash your capacitor, this attribute text will

    also be made movable. Unfortunately, this opens the door wide to

    accidental errors like moving the plus sign to the WRONG side or things

    like that.

    Before I placed them on the board, I ported them over to a custom library and changed a few things.  Amoung the changes, make sure the + sign is text.

     

    I just tried moving the text (+ sign) to the tNames layer and replaced the parts on my schematic/PCB.  Although the part updated correctly, the + sign is still not movable as the designator is.  I find it inconceiveable that this would not be allowed, as there will be times when there will be another pad, via, or other obstruction right where the + symbol is located.

    I'm pretty sure you'll find that they aren't text, but rather just a pair

    of lines.

     

    So you're kind of stuck with having to edit the components.
