I find that in particularly dense layouts that the silkscreen is not the only layer that makes it hard to see what's going on. If you could create and assign viewing layers that operate independently of the routing layers, it would be much easier to see. The implementation would be within the preferences where by default the viewing layer and the routing layer would be the same, but you could alternatively change the viewing layer to shut off visibility to that part of the layout, while not shutting off an entire routing layer.
