Hello,
there is one feature of Control Panel that I consider as a bug. If I edit the file name in Control Panel (which I do by pressing F2), only the displayed name is changed, but the file on disk stays under the old name.
Here I state the scenario that proves this behaviour to be problematic:
1. I have once upon the time created some processor module (sch + brd), and now want to use it to prepare several different modules for some other project
2. I create new project in Control Panel
3. I drag the original design files to the new project folder holding the Ctrl key
4. I rename both the files (using the same base name for them, to avoid synchronization problems)
5. I start to edit the schematics, and I am asked if I would like to also open the PCB file with an "old name" (I mean, the name it had before the rename). Now I know I should answer Yes, but it was confusing (or even irritating) to me for the first time. But OK, that's not the main point yet.
6. I edit my design to fit the new needs, everything goes just fine. I add element here and there, synchronize with the PCB and successfully finish the layout.
7. Now I need to start preparing second type of module. Again I drag the original file holding the Ctrl key and... Eagle asks me if I would overwrite the file I have just edited! To make it more confusing it refers to it by using the "old name". Why there is a conflict if I renamed the design files?
Spotted on Eagle 6.2.0 Light.
By the way, doing the above procedure several times I have found another bug.
If I create new project, its name will be set to "New_Project" and automatically selected for editing. If I cancel the edit operation (by hitting Esc or clicking elsewhere) and then drag some file to the new folder holding the Ctrl key, the file will be renamed to "New_Project" with appropriate extension.
Best regards,
Aleksander Mielczarek
