Shortcut keys

reidkersey

I would like to be able to assign shortcut keys to single letters, like 'm' for move or 'i' for info, when an item is selected.

I would also like to be able to assign the 'del' key to a function (like delete).

'm' for move or 'i' for info, when an item is selected.

Then how would you enter commands?  Unqualified letters must remain

available to the command line.  However, you can still get what you want

with CTRL held down, which is no big deal.  For truly single key commands,

use the function keys.  For additional letter commands, use CTRL+letter.

We arent exaclty living in the 20th century. Most programs are GUI based, and you shouldnt have to need to enter commands, and in all reality I have never needed to enter one in eagle.

Also, remember that YOU assign the shortcuts, so if you dont want commands, you dont need to have them.

Then you are missing out on probably the most powerful aspect of Eagle.  I

guess you can clickety-click your way thru most operations, but using the

command line is so much more powerful and quick than a lot of mouse

    operations.

That doesn't work if bare letters can be trapped as single shortcut keys at

all.  If you never ever were going to use the command line I suppose it

would be possible, but that's really unrealistic and a bad idea.  You've

got 12 function keys that can be single key strokes, and the letter keys

are still available as shortcuts just with the addition of CTRL, so there

is really no problem here to solve.

You don't "have to" enter commands, but you can. I use the command line

frequently and would miss it if it were removed.

Scripting would also be more challenging without it as well.

It wouldnt have to be removed, just put in the ability to add single letter shortcuts. If you still wanted to use the command line, you just should avoid creating single letter shortcuts.

The change that I would like should not directly affect anyone, just add the ability for the user to customize the program to the way that they would like to use it.
