Add support for 3D mouse

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, I was just contemplating getting a 3D mouse so doing some searching on Google to see if it would work with EAGLE. Now Cadsoft are owned by Autodesk and a lot of their existing products work with 3D mice, maybe this would be something they could find a way of incorporating into EAGLE?

I hope you're doing well. This is actually an interesting topic to

explore. EAGLE technically just takes whatever the mouse driver gives it.

So theoretically, EAGLE supporting a 3D mouse should just be a matter of

mapping the appropriate buttons on the 3D mouse driver to what EAGLE needs.

I saw a few years ago a video where a user was using a 3D mouse with

EAGLE. However he provided no info about his setup and attempts to

contact him where not successful.

I think it can work right now, but I can't guarantee that it will. It's

is on our feature request list however it's low prio so it might take a

bit to get into EAGLE. Hopefully, through proper configuration it will work.

I'm good thanks, I hope things are well with you too.

The thing about a 3D mouse is it has more degrees of freedom to an ordinary mouse and is designed to be used at the same time as an ordinary mouse. For this reason I don't think it will just work with EAGLE by default. It might be possible to map some of the hot keys to EAGLE functions but not in the fully integrated way intended by the manufacturer (3Dconnexion SpaceMouse/SpacePilot Pro are the ones I am currently looking at) and that would be about it. I can see the various degrees of freedom being used to pan and zoom really quickly and accurately and also to allow easy rotation of components whilst the mouse is still available and being used for click based operations like adding a component/wire etc in the schematic or routing in the layout. I can see how the combination of the two would make the layout task much faster, especially if you get live DRC and push & shove routing, then using this combination would be great.

I agree, other features on the list are higher priority, this might be easier than it would initially seem to implement if the new devs on your team are familiar with these devices already from their previous Autodesk work.
