Importing a board into EAGLE

Dear all,

I did ask this question a few weeks back, but got no reply, so I am adding info here.

This is an issue that has been bugging me for a while now, if someone could help me, or at least show me how they have done it in the past I would be highly grateful.

So far this is what I have done.

Clicked 'EAGLE files' at the bottom of the APM2.5 product page.

Now, when the download pops up, and select open with EAGLE.

I get this garbled mess!

Ok. Now if I unzip the files, I try the following.

First I get this.

If I click on the two file (which as you can see are BRD or 'board' and SCH of 'schematic' respectively) it comes up with all the gunk above.

Now, if I try draaagging the two files into a new project I get this...

But if I click on one of them, I get this

So I am obviously going very wrong at some crucial point.

Are you really unaware about what ZIP files are (for)?

Ok. Now if I unzip the files, I try the following.

Ok, so you found out at last that the zip file is a (compressing)
container for the files in it.

But if I click on one of them, I get this

So I am obviously going very wrong at some crucial point.

Seems like a version conflict to me. The file format of the EAGLE design
files has been changed from each major release to the next. The recent
versions generally support opening the older formats, but (logically)
not vice versa. Maybe you are trying to open recent files with an older
software version.

- Which version of EAGLE are you using?
- Do you know which EAGLE version the files are?
(If they are XML text, they are from V6.)
- Did you also try to open them with the current version (6.4) of EAGLE?
