Unrouted Airwires

I have been going over the posts regarding Eagle 6.4, trying to determine if anything has been done to throw out some warning when there are still wires to be routed. I know about the very small message in the lower left corner of the window stating how many airwires are still left to be routed.  BUT come on, for a "Professional" version of cad software to allow you to go as far as sending out Gerbers for boards to be made when your board is not completely routed is rediculious. Not even an error message. No way to easily see where your unrouted wires are. Yes I know about layers and turning them on/off to see unrouted wires, but again, too many steps for such an important function. Shouldn't there be a large message saying "you have X number of unrouted wires" and a way to see them highlighted right there for all the world to see. I opted for my company to buy three professional seats of Eagle. I am not sure it was the correct choice when I spend so much time searching for unrouted wires, longer than should be necessary to build component footprints, ulp's to do things that should be built into the program menus, etc. I have seen several upgrades and most do not help the use of the program. Thanks for putting up with my rant. It is because two of the people working with Eagle here at my company sent out boards to be made and didn't notice the small message that the boards were not fully routed. It seems to me the DRC should have an unrouted airwire alarm/message, whatever, something.

    The problem with doing that is that it will generate an insane amount of

    nuisance errors as your developing your layout.

     

    Additionally, there are some very simple ways to find the airwires. One

    of my favorites it to go Options -> Set -> Misc. The catch factor by

    default is set to 5% of the screen. Set it to 100%. The idea here is

    that if you activate the route command with the catch factor set to 100%

    it will automatically select the nearest airwire regardless of where you

    click on the screen. Once you're done you can switch the catch factor

    back to 5%.

     

    Perhaps a more reasonable approach might be to have the CAM processor

    warn you that you have airwires left on the board and allow you to

    determine if you want to go ahead anyway.

    I like it just as it is. It could not be much easier and really is

    something one should check before running the CAM processor.

    I certainly can understand liking it as it is, however people enjoyed the Model-T hand crank until someone installed electric starters and made it better. Not trying to be smart about it, just to explain that until you see something done differently you may not know it can be done much easier and easier is better when you have many people to worry about and schedules to keep up with.
