Lock a Design?

Is there a way to lock a desigh from edits. I have a finished design, got the PCB, its populated. I needed to do some signal tracing on this multi-layer board so I brought in my lap top and opened up Eagle. A co-worker "accidently" changed some things and then saved the changes. I had a back up to go to so no real problem, but one a PCB is made I don't want the files to be changed, but still need access. Is there a No Edit mode or some work around? Using windows, can I make the .brd or .sch read only?

  • So, making the .brd and .sch files read only works. It is kind of a kludge but it does seem to work.

    You're on the right track - set the board and schematic to read-only.

     

    What is sounds like you really need is a revision control system.  There

    are many available, but I after doing a thorough survey of various

    systems a few years ago, I landed on Perforce.  It provided the best

    tradeoff between work flow constraints (like CASE tools) and cost.

    Perforce supports multiple CPU and OS platforms - Windows, Linux, and

    various Unix'es such as BSD, Solaris, OSX, and many others.

     

    A good RCS will do exactly what you're trying to accomplish.  When a

    file is checked in, the local copy is set to read-only.  When a file is

    checked out, the local copy is set to read/write.
