All of my schematics and boards are suddenly gone!

Plecto

I haven't used eagle in about a month or so, but when I today tried to open one of my schematics, they were all gone including the board files! I have done nothing to my computer files and I have certanly not deleted anything. The only thing that I might have done is update it as I no longer get the message telling me to do so (I got v.6.2.0 light). This is such a disaster, what has happened?

You've possibly logged in as a different user, compared to when you originally installed and ran the software. Usually I go to Options->Directories and set it up to store EAGLE files at a location such as C:\myEagleFiles or whatever. So, for example, the projects folder would change from the standard

    $EAGLEDIR\projects\examples to $EAGLEDIR\projects\examples;C:\myEagleFiles

That way, the files are always at a convenient location.

I will do that, but I only have one user on this computer. Forgot to mention that my personal library (the one I uses to make components that eagle doesn't have) is also gone. I'm looking in the library folder and I can find the sparkfun library, so it's not like it has deleted everything.

    Hi.

Every new version of eagle installs in an new folder, like C:\Program Files (x86)\EAGLE-6.3.0, C:\Program Files (x86)\EAGLE-6.1.0 and so on.

By default eagle use the library and project folders from the eagle install folder so I would guess that you could find your projects and librarys is in the old eagle install directory.

In eagle Control Panel you can go to menu Options -> Directories to specify wich folders to include.

No new install directory has been made. I got two directories, both are in Program Files (x86). One folder is called Eagle-5.3.0, the other is called EAGLE-6.2.0. I've had these for a long time, I just haven't bothered to delete the first one, but I've always used the latter one. I've searched for "eagle" without finding any other directories. Going into options and directories I see "$EAGLEDIR\lbr" "$EAGLEDIR\dru" etc. I don't really know where their harddrive location is.

    Hi.
Can you check in the C:\Program Files (x86)\EAGLE-6.2.0\projects folder with a file maneger and see if you can find your project there?

The $EAGLEDIR point to your eagle installation directory wich in your case seems to be C:\Program Files (x86)\EAGLE-6.2.0.

    The default directories should be:

    Libraries: $EAGLEDIR\lbr

    Design Rules: $EAGLEDIR\dru

    User Language Programs: $EAGLEDIR\ulp

    Scripts: $EAGLEDIR\scr

    CAM Jobs: $EAGLEDIR\cam

    Projects: $EAGLEDIR\projects

The directories are as you say with the exeption of projects which has a long path to some examples folder. I changed it to "$EAGLEDIR\projects".

I don't think I've made many projects, I've probably just worked with one project, making several schematics within it. Not sure where I can find the file manager though, do you mean right clicking the start menu and then click "Open windows explorer"?

Yes, it was the windows explorer that I ment.
You could also try to search for all the bord(.brd) or schematic(.sch) files on your computer.
On Win7 in windows explorer you can select C: to the left and then in the search field in the upper right corner type *.brd to search for board files or *.sch for schematics.

Thank you image I thought about searching for the files, but the files doesn't show up if I just look for them in "Computer", they do in Windows Explorer though. They have been moved to "C:\Users\Torri\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\EAGLE-6.2.0" oddly enough, I can't imagine why :S I'll copy them back to where they belong image Thank you so much.

That's windows data redirection 'feature'. You are trying to write to a

protected location (Program files) and windows 'solves' that by actually

writing to that virtualstore location, but telling you that it wrote to

'program files'. That latter part somehow went wrong. If you want to know

    more, google it (UAC Virtualization).

Anyway, if you insist in keeping your projects, schematics and/or board in

that location this will most likely happen again. Move them to somewhere

in your user profile, like 'Documents'. If you make a habit of modifying

standard Eagle libraries, scripts and/or ulp's (bad practice) move these

    also.
