Eagle 6.4.0 - consistent crashing

Greetings. Recently got in to using Eagle (ver 6.4.0) and so far I've been

fairly unhappy with how frequently it crashes. Usually the crashes occur

during relatively simple changes. For instance, yesterday I created a text

block with a single letter in it to place on the silkscreen, and if I tried

to change the properties of that text block (text size, orientation, etc),

Eagle would crash. Also, if I tried to change a via size or shape, same

crashing issue. The board I was working on yesterday is fairly small, 7mm

diameter with .005" traces, .011 holes, etc, but I can't imagine that Eagle

can't handle this. I've heard good things about Eagle, and I can't seem to

find anything online referencing the issues I am having, so it seems like I

might be doing something wrong. Any ideas? Should I uninstall/reinstall?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Hi Chris,

     

    What's your computer setup? Do you have a 64-bit machine? Windows , Mac,

    Linux?

     

    The changes you're trying to make are nothing outside of EAGLE's

    capabilities.

    I hope you're doing well. We're running into some crashes we can't

    reproduce on 64-bit machines.

     

    We're looking into solutions for this for a future release. In the

    meantime a couple of things you can do to minimize the crashes even

    though they will continue until we get this resolved.

     

    - Save all of your personal work to the eagle folder in Documents, this

    is a safe area void of any restriction on behalf of the OS. This means

    schematics, boards, and libraries as well as scripts and ULPs you might

    make.

     

    - In some cases setting EAGLE to run in administrative mode can help.
