Eagle graphical glitch with fglrx drivers on Linux

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

Hello i am having an issue with eagle on Ubuntu 12.10 using a AMD HD 7770 graphics card using the fglrx drivers, currently im using the latest drivers (13.3) from their website but i have also tried older versions which come with ubuntu no difference.

I have also tried multiple versions of eagle, all have the same problem.

anything within the work area on either schematic or boardlayout will glitch up, i found another post in german with the same problem so its not just me having the issue. http://www.element14.com/community/message/73170

previously i had been using a nvidia card which worked fine on this system.

any help would be welcome, thank you.

Several of us have noticed similar problems, though I don't know that

we've isolated it to the AMD/ATI vs nVidia or Intel. I have an AMD

Radeon HD 5670 graphics card. I normally run with compositing turned

off, but if I turn it on I see similar problems.

Try turning off compositing and see if the problem goes away. You could

also try the proprietary AMD driver. Let us know what you see!

i did try playing with the compositing, made no difference. fglrx is the proprietary amd driver.

we are analyzing the problem. One question: Are you getting any output on the

command line if you are using the "bad" fglrx driver ?

If yes, could you tell us ?

    Thanks for reply,

I do not get any output if I run Eagle in terminal emulator,

every fglrx version I tried (13.1-13.6) seems to cause this problem.

    Hello,

I happen to have the exact same problem, on the free version though. Here are some infos to help the devs :

    - Running ArchLinux as well

    - Updated yesterday/today

    - Moved from the free drivers to fglrx drivers.

    - Didn't have the problem with the free drivers, clicking "redraw" just fixed any image that could have been messed up (moved to fglrx drivers for other glitches problems in videos. Not related to Eagle)

    - Running Xorg 1.14.2

    - Running Catalyst Drivers 13.15.100.1 beta (Xorg 1.14.2 not supported with stable drivers)

    - Running Kernel 3.10.3

    - Running Eagle 6.4.0

    - Cannot disable compositing (black screen on X startup) so I couldn't test it

    - XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 has no effect

    - Anything apart from Eagle is running smoothly

Please let me know if you need additional info (strace or anything).

many thanks for the detailed description ! We're in contact with our

3rd party graphic libs provider. They make us only little hope and

think it's a driver bug. We'll update you once we know more.

Could you try with one these options:

    ./eagle -graphicssystem native

    ./eagle -graphicssystem raster

    Do you notice differences ?

No difference. Display is still glitched.

I tried that before as someone suggested on another forum some time ago, but it did not work (neither does now).

Our graphics library provider considers this a driver bug and couldn't help us.

    Sorry for the inconvenience !

I had a similar problem, but managed to resolve it.

In Catalyst control center, Navigate to Display Options -> Tear Free

    Enable Tear Free.

    Click Ok.

    Now, back to my schematics.

    Thanks for reply,

I tried playing with Display Options, Tear Free seems to help a little bit, but problem with display still persists,

I have to hit F2 (redraw) like 10 times to get clear schematic/board view, zooming spoils it instantly, even

    moving cursor around leaves artifacts.

    Another question to devs:

Are You using QGLWidget or something else for drawing?

I'm trying to build minimal QT/Opengl example that has the same problem and post driver bug report to AMD

(I still don't know how to trigger this behavior in QT, all minimal examples seem to work perfectly)

    Hello,

I have the same Problem. The Problem consists since i changed my graphiccard. From NVIDIA to AMD.

Tear drop option makes no difference.

A possible workaround is to use Eagle Windows with wine. But it is not perfekt stable on Linux.

I'm using Debian testing and tried several fglrx drivers, but no change at all.

It would be very helpfull if somebody could fix this Bug.

    Greetings
