Touch support for EAGLE

So I just got a new laptop (Samsung ATIV Book 8/ (aka Series 7 Chronos)) that has both a very nice multi-touch pad and a multi-touch screen.  One thing that I think would be very useful is good integration of mouse gestures into EAGLE.

 

Stuff like:

Pinch-to-Zoom

Two-fingered swipe to pan

 

Working properly on both the touchscreen and the touchpad

 

As it stands right now, the touchpad works for pinch-to-zoom, but if I try to pinch on the touchscreen it will jitter about a bit before settling back where I started when after I let go.  I think the basic gestures like this can be handled through Microsoft's standard gesture interface, so it shouldn't even be too difficult to code.

 

I know many people use a mouse, but I've found the touch to be pretty useful, and would like to see it fully supported.

 

Anyone else have anything they'd care to add or any suggestions for temporary workarounds?

  • I don't know why everyone is so anti the touch based interface.  I use Eagle on a mac and there the gestures the OP describes are available on the touchpad.  I can work so much faster using pinch to zoom and two finger pan&track as opposed to using a mouse.  Not sure if I would want to touch the screen but each to their own and if the interface and libraries are their to enable it then why not have it as an option?!

    Yes, on a touchpad that's the case. For owners of a scroll wheel mouse,

    however, zooming and panning with the wheel should be so much faster...

    It seems to be a trend in Forums and web discussions to suggest touch

    support for sometimes silly reasons. I get the impression that in many

    cases this is done by people paid by Microsoft, which is desperate to

    push Windows 8's interface for the mentally challenged.

    This would not suprise me in the least.

     

    The decision here as of this year is never to buy into any product with

    a microsoft connection (Including skype etc). In the last 30 years they

    have proven themselves incapable of providing anything even reasonably

    bug free and reliable and their answer is always "buy the new one"

    or to settle out of court when people have serious cases.

     

    We consider that response to be no longer acceptable. We will

    be holding all our software suppliers legally and financially

    responsible for all reasonable issues  from now on. We no

    longer accede to exclusion clauses and will fight such matters

    in the courts if need be. (Individual clauses in contracts

    can be declared void by UK courts if found to be unfair or unreasonable)

     

    If a motor car manufacturer can produce a reasonably reliable

    product we believe the software industry should be held to at least

    the same standards.

     

    Vista was appaling and windows7 similarly bug ridden and unnecesarily

    complex.

     

    The design of something like a PC operating system is trivial compared

    to many engineering projects.

     

    We think the time has come to say,"no more."

    LOL, you guys are such haters!

     

    I've been using Vista with no major issues since I bought my HP tower from Costco years ago.  Eagle works flawlessly on it and that's what matters to me.

     

    I also have three Macs at home and I work with linux at the day job.  All computers suck in one way or another.  I'm actually about to get rid of all the Macs and replace them with a combination of Linux and yes *gasp* Windows.  Then I can finally upgrade to EAGLE 6...

     

    If someone wants Linux, let them have it, if someone loves Windows, that's ok, if someone wants touch screen and/or multitouch gestures, hey, if it makes them more productive, why not?
