Jorge Garcia

I'm a young engineer with extensive experience working on EAGLE. My interests include Power Supply design and LED solid state lighting, and I'm always impressed by a well designed PCB.

    Hi Jorge,

I have only just started using Eagle CAD so this question probably has an easy answer. I have added an 74AC04N to my schematic but there are no pins available for the ground and Vcc pins (pins 1 and 14). When error checking, the software tells me that there is no supply connected. How do I do this?

    Kind regards

    Chris

    There are two possible methods:

    1) use the default supply nets

The 74xx family uses VCC and GND for supply, so if you add supply

symbols for VCC and GND on the same schematic page, they will get

    connected automatically.

    2) use the seventh gate

The 74xx04 library device consists of six identical NOT gates, marked to

be added "NEXT", so that as you drop the gates you get six from one chip

then start a second. However, there is a seventh gate in the device,

which is the power pins, marked to be added on "REQUEST". The way you

get to this is to select the INVOKE tool and click on one of the gates.

Then you pick the power symbol and place that somewhere (coincident with

a get will usually line up neatly) and connect your supplies to that.

This is all covered in the tutorial and manual that come with Eagle.
