.brd & .sch files unlinked - Trying to link them back together

autodeskguest

Hello everybody

I've finished a design yesterday evening. When I then tried to reopen the

design to do an alteration, I got the message that the .brd file doesn't

exist. I then opened the .brd file and when I click on switch to schematic,

I get a message that the Board and schematic are not consistent. When I

click OK, it opens a new schematic file that is blank. (Two different

control panel windows open)

I would like to link the two files together again so that I can make the

alterations since redesigning the PCB will be a lot of effort. Is this

possible or have I caused myself a lot of rework? Thank you in advance.

Dirk

    Hello Everybody

I've resolved this issue by just creating a new .sch file from the existing

brd file. I then opened up the existing .sch file and copied all the

content over to the new .sch file. Saved everything and it is now linked

    together again.

Glad you got it working Dirk.  I don't see that inconsistency happen very

often any more.  There was a bug in earlier versions where it happened

quite often during a library update but I think that has been resolved.

In any case, the generic way to fix this is to look at the ERC and see what

is different between the two, manually add what is missing, and then redo

the ERC.  It can be as simple as adding or correcting an attribute or net

name or can be as complicated as having to add a whole sub-circuit.

But as you say, if you already have a large part of the PCB layout done,

you don't want to have to redo that.

    Cheers,

    James.

    Thank you James

First time that this has happened with me now. Luckily it is resolved now.
