Module ports

s.j.dickinson
s.j.dickinson over 11 years ago

Having created a module with a few ports is it possible to edit the

ports? For example, change a port's signal direction, delete a port,

move a port on the module's symbol.  I don't seem to be able to find a

way apart from deleting the whole module and starting again.

    Hi Guys,

The port properties can be modified by activating the info command and

holding down control and left-clicking on the port itself. There's still

more to do with hierarchy and EAGLE, rest assured we are on it.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

    Jorge,

I just upgraded to 7.2.0. It still appears that you cannot rename a port despite what is described in the release notes..."- Allow renaming a port in the properties dialog."

Here's what I tried: Select Info command and right-click on the port. The Properties dialog appears but I am unable to edit the names or directions of the ports.

    So, I read help...

    "
    Edit

The MOVE command can be used to edit the module symbol. A port of a module symbol can be selected with Ctrl+Left at it's connecting end for moving it along the module instance's border.

The INFO command can be used to get the port properties by selecting it with Ctrl+Left.

If connected with a net, the selection can be ambigous. Please use Ctrl+Right in order to switch to the requested object (port in this case).
    "

On my system (Dell Precision with std. Dell keyboard and Logitech wireless mouse using the edit command or info command as described above has no effect with "Ctrl+Left" or "Ctrl+Right". In fact, the Ctrl key doesn't seem to be recognized.  When I Select the move command and Ctrl-Left OR Ctrl+Right, the entire module is selected and rotates.

So, have you confirmed that modules can be renamed?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Dave

    Jorge,

Turns out that Ctrl+Right click performs the delete (after the Delete function is deleted) deletes a port and Ctrl+Right click allows you to select the port and rename or change the function on my system. I'm not sure if this is a "feature" due to the "handedness" of the mouse (i.e. set to a right-handed mouse or a left-handed mouse). Mine is Set to Right-handed. The selection of the port is not as straight forward as I'd like to see (unlike that of a pin) as there is not really a clear place to click. The help says "A port of a module symbol can be selected with Ctrl+Left at it's connecting end" which I presume is where the wire connects. So, it take a bit to select the port verses the wire. I'm not sure if it makes sense in the over all scheme, but it would be easier IMHO if the "click hot spot" were the middle of the port. Just an idea. So, although 7.x continues to improve, there may be some remaining issues with ports - typical of software with this complexity.

    In summary:

Help for the port states Ctrl+Left

I found that on my system: Ctrl+Right works ("other Left" image - sorry could not resist)

    System Information:

    Dell Precision T3000

    Windows 7/Pro x64

    Keyboard: KB522

Mouse: Logitech model ? (Wireless mouse attached to wired KB USB port)

I'd be interested if others find the same or is there some nuance in my system configuration?
