Error when exploring 3D IDF exporting

DaveYoung

Hi-

I'm tinkering around with the EagleIDFExporter.ulp as per the tutorial shown here: http://youtu.be/PJfypAYDa5w

I ran the ULP, generated the files, but the Simplified Solutions webapp gave me an error instantly on importing:

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed

Location: http://www.simplifiedsolutionsinc.com:8080/EMN-EMPAdvancedApp/GetSvgFromDbServlet?session_id=23615&type=svg

Line Number 411, Column 22:<!-- PW14 G2X_0_1_1---PW14 U2 -->

---------------------^

I don't know what any of that means. I created this board a while ago, possibly on an older version of EAGLE. Can anyone help me out? I've uploaded my EAGLE schematic and board files and the two IDF exported files here.

Thanks,

Dave

    Hi Dave,

I just consulted with Simplified Solutions. The issue here is the three dashes in the part name for U2. If you remove --- and replace it with and underscore or some other character then the files should work just fine.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

Dave, attached are updated emn and emp files that fix the issue. The fix will not have any material impact to the board or model. Its just a fix to the syntax of the component name. The one component name has several dashes in it that the application doesnt like. There is existing logic in the ulp and 3D site to address similar issues like this but it doesnt currently have logic for this specific case. Ill take a look to see if I can incorporate this in a future release.

These files will load in the 3D IDF site now and generate 3D models. If you run in to any other issues feel free to let me know.

    Thanks
    Marc

Thanks Jorge! This is perfect. I changed the symbol and the device name as you suggested and was able to import the files without any issues.

Thanks for the files Marc, although after reading Jorge's response I wanted to get it going for myself. And it worked just fine! Thanks again for going through the trouble of making the files.
