Hi there. I'm scratch building a large RC warship with lots of working features. I need a varisistor for speed control.

I will be using 2 6vdc 7ah batteries which will give me 6vdc @ 14 ah and

-with diodes- 12vdc @ 7 ah. The screws will be turned using 4 perm

magnet motors. Thus i need to get a good versistor or whatever for

additional speed control. what would you suggest?

If you're going to remote control the ship, you can buy ready-made

I think you mean using or-ing diodes, you can run the batts in parallel (6V
14aH). In series (6+6=12V), no diode is needed.

In any case, if you want to only go fwd, a PWM low side fet (meaning
switching the gnd) is the easy way to go. You could even use a 555 timer
to set the percent on time (probably from 50% to max). Other pulse
circuits could give you a wider speed adjustment.

If you need to go fwd &rev, then you need a full bridge (H-bridge), which
is generally 4 fets (2 high side & 2 low side). There are some chips that
contain everything you need in one package(such as used for car electric
windows).
