edit pin names in schematic editor

Question

When you have a connector in your schematic you often want the signals connected to the connector written next to the connector pin. These signals are not necessarily the nets signal names, e.g. Vcc is connected to the debug connector but the debuggers signal name is VTG and you want this name next to the connector pin.

So is there a way to do this, other than making a custom device in the library with these names? Is there a way to edit pin names in the schematic editor?

Thanks for your answer Bob! Putting net names next to a connector is the default way. I was looking for a solution when the label you want at the connector (e.g. "VTG" for a debug connector) is not the same as the name of the net connected to it (e.g. +3V3) and renaming the net is not an option.

I now understand that renaming the pins in the schematic editor cannot be done because it would brake the pin/pad assignment of the device.
