3D gerber viewer works with gerber files created with 7.1.0 but not 7.3.0?

Hello,

I have been using http://mayhewlabs.com/3dpcb (3D Gerber Viewer) and Eagle 7.1.0 lite to verify my PCB's. But when I take the same board file and use the same cam job in Eagle 7.3.0 lite the resulting gerber files do not show properly anymore with the Mayhew labs 3d gerver viewer. I even opened 7.1.0 and 7.3.0 at the same time and had the cam processor open for both versions and verified that all the settings, file locations and layers selected match.

Any idea what could be the cause?

Here is a pic of my board with gerber files created in 7.1.0:

And here is that same board with gerber files created in 7.3.0( Note that all of the via and mechanical holes are outside of the pcb)

First check parameters are the same for both versions. Quite possibly the defaults were changed!image

Edit: Thank you Jorge for the details. I should have looked at the change log to find this one.

What parameters should I check? I had cam processor opened for both versions and I made sure all settings were the same. I will double check again tonight.

It seems like the scaling for the drill file is off since all the vias and mechanical holes are well outside the pcb.

    Hi Evan,

Between V7.0 and V7.3 the CAM processor's default resolution was

increased by a decimal place the new format is:

2.5 leading zeroes suppressed absolute inches

If you let the gerber viewer know that this is the format of your files

then everything should show up properly.

    hth,

    Jorge Garcia

Does this mean I will need to inform the fab house of this aswell or is

it just a issue related to the gerber viewer?

    Hi Evan,

Fab houses usually figure it out, if they have any doubts they will

usually call you to confirm what's going on. They're familiar with this

type of behaviour in gerber viewers and know how to deal with it.
