resistor array lbr

bdoubleu
bdoubleu over 10 years ago

I'm new to eagle, just learning on the educational version for my first board layout.

I have a very simple board, but I would like to use a 6 pin SIP resistor array, Bourns is the brand I'm currently eyeing.  So how do I find a bussed resistor array in the eagle library?  I've looked and don't see one, I've looked on Bourns website and the library they have doesn't have one in it.

Thanks in advance for helping the newbie.

    Hi Brandon,

You can search in the usual add component dialog, by typing the part number or (say) array or SIP* or SIL* to see what comes up.

I did a search for SIL* and saw some resistor arrays, perhaps one of them may help you.

However, bear in mind that there are hundreds of thousands (or millions?) of different components available, and not all will have a prepared EAGLE part. Therefore it is important to know how to create your own parts based on the information in the datasheet. I can't create a single board generally (not just with EAGLE, but with other CAD packages too) without creating a few parts - it can be considered part of the PCB design process. See the EAGLE user manual to see how to create your own parts.

ok.  i appreciate the quick replies and help.  i'm still learning my way around the software, so will probably ask a few more basic questions over the next few days.  I've watched some youtube tutorials and those have been helpful.

i will look at the user manual for creating parts, although for this very simple board the most complex components are a 5-6 pin header and button battery holder.  I will have some through holes for soldering some thin gauge wires to the board.  For the wire through holes do I just use a "via" that has its hole on the opposite side of the two layer board isolated?

I would place a part on the schematic and PCB for that (e.g. a 'pin header' (searchable in the add components dialog).

here is a dumb one.  where is the through hole resistor component?... i've search about 6 different ways and still don't find it.

    Hi Brandon,

Just type 'resistor' in the 'add component' dialog.

You'll see all the resistors available. You'll see some in a library called 'rcl' (resistor capacitor and inductor library) or a library called 'resistor'. Select the EU or US category (depending on if you want a rectangle schematic symbol or a zig-zag resistor symbol and then you can browse through it.

thanks, I had searched for resistor but didn't expand the R-US tree... duh. i'll be back... trust me.  I'm getting there though and it's looking good

No problem, it will take a while to get familiar with EAGLE, but the results are worth it : )
