"SET CONFIRM NO; QUIT;" not working if changes ( wanted to be lost ) has been made.

Hello dear EAGLE user, dear EAGLE Support team,

I'm setting up a fully automated document generation bash script for BoM, gerbers, centroid file, schematic printing, etc. Thus I'm using eagle in command line ( from a bash shell ) in the following way:

eagle -N -C<some_eagle_commands> <eagle.epf>

each such call to eagle should do whatever needed to do the job, then QUIT eagle without saving any possible changes and no user interaction is allowed. I mean that I don't want to have any popup or dialog requiring user intervention. Thus the <some_eagle_commands> generally ends by SET CONFIRM NO; QUIT;

My issue:

As indicated in the documentation, SET CONFIRM NO; should automatically answer NO to the dialog that would show otherwise if any changes has been made before executing the QUIT; command. However, the dialog still appears even when using SET CONFIRM NO; QUIT;.

An easy example to reproduce the issue is:

  • Open an eagle project containing both board and schematic.
  • Assuming the schematic has at least one assembly variant ( i.e. other that main "''" variant ), change the assembly variant.
  • then execute the SET CONFIRM NO; QUIT; command in the editor command window.
  • ISSUE: Eagle is showing a dialog asking you if you want to save or not the changes ( i.e. the fact that assembly variant has been changed ). I don't want this dialog since I used SET CONFIRM NO; but still ...

Is this a bug ? What can I do to avoid such dialog ?

If you need additional details, please ask me.

Best regards,

Jonathan.

    Under linux, try:

    echo "no" > eagle -N -C<some_eagle_commands> <eagle.epf>

Thank you Clem for the hint.

It seems to work in some cases but not for every case.

For example, the following do not work ( it seems that the ULP is not executed, or not as expected ):

         echo "NO" > eagle -N -C"RUN <ulp> <ulp_arg>; SET CONFIRM NO; QUIT;" <eagle.epf>

I don't really understand how the echo "NO" is passed to eagle and in which way eagle is using this input. Can you provide me with more info on that or indicate me where I can find more info ?

    Best regards,

    Jonathan.

I believe that should have been a pipe character

        echo "n" | eagle -N -Cgerbv.sh <<EOF

        #!/bin/bash

    1. Run gerbv with a specific set of ordered files

        exec gerbv

            pn-RevX-ExcellonDrill.exc

            pn-RevX-TopSilkScreen.gbr

            pn-RevX-TopMask.gbr

            pn-RevX-TopCopper.gbr

            pn-RevX-BotSilkScreen.gbr

            pn-RevX-BotPaste.gbr

            pn-RevX-BotMask.gbr

            pn-RevX-BotCopper.gbr

            pn-RevX-NonPTHoles.gbr

        EOF

        chmod u+x gerbv.sh

        ./gerbv.sh &  # Run gerber viewer

        zip -j pn-RevX.zip  \

            pn-RevX-ExcellonDrill.exc \

            pn-RevX-TopSilkScreen.gbr \

            pn-RevX-TopMask.gbr \

            pn-RevX-TopCopper.gbr \

            pn-RevX-BotSilkScreen.gbr \

            pn-RevX-BotPaste.gbr \

            pn-RevX-BotMask.gbr \

            pn-RevX-BotCopper.gbr \

            pn-RevX-NonPTHoles.gbr

        exit 0

    HTH,

        - Chuck

Actually I was wrong. The command

         echo "no" > eagle -N -C<some_eagle_commands> <eagle.epf>

do not solve the issue. Instead it creates a file with name "eagle" in the current directory with content "no -N -C<some_eagle_commands> <eagle.epf>" and the desired "eagle -N -C<some_eagle_commands> <eagle.epf>" command is not executed by the bash shell.

    Also, using the pipe symbol

         echo "no" | eagle -N -C<some_eagle_commands> <eagle.epf>

doesn't seem the solve the popup/dialog issue.

I'm running eagle on Mac OSX but it should not be different than in Linux. For info the command "eagle" is a symbolic link to the Eagle app  bin inside the Eagle package. Again I don't think this is a problem.

    Best regards,

    Jonathan.

This question is shown as "assumed to be answered" but it is not...

My last post says that none of the replies solved my issue.

Thus, if someone from CadSoft could answer my original question it would be very helpful.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Jonathan.
