Drill Legend

apdobaj
apdobaj over 9 years ago

I received a message from the CM that they didn't know which drills were plated and which  were not for one particular drill size. This surprised me so I took a look and sure enough there in the fab drawing was a line item in the legend that said "Both" under the plated heading. I played around with the settings a bit but could never figure out a way to use a different symbol for plated holes vs unplated holes for any particular hole size. Worse, in the fab drawing, the symbol created by Eagle is different for a "Hole" vs a "Drill", and because they share the same symbols that distinction is not at all clear. So in the fab drawing it can appear that the drill size called out is wrong if you don't have the right layer turned on. For example, the hole in the attached screenshot has two symbols, one for the drill legend and one for the hole legend (I'm guessing), and the symbol for the latter is also the symbol for a different drill size in the drill legend. So how do I set it up so that the generated drill legend unambiguously calls out both plated and un-plated holes of the same size (ie, with two different symbols)?

    Hi Anthony,

I don't know the exact answer to your question as I haven't had this issue arise in EAGLE yet myself so haven't had to deal with it, but I have come across it in another package. I was actually working with a separate person who was doing the board layout at the time and the way they worked around this with that tool was to have the plated through holes the exact size, lets say 100mil, and then the non plated ones they would specify to be 100.001mil and they would add a note to the drawings to indicate that the 100.001mil non-plated holes should be 100mil. It's not the ideal solution but it was a work around that worked at the time with the tools we were using back then.

    Best Regards,

    Rachael
