Non-visable remnant?

jerry323
jerry323 over 9 years ago

Sometime during a PCB design using the pro version of Eagle 6.5, something happened to cause the extents of the design to increase drastically.  The board out line is approximately 0.6 X 2.5 inches, but when I do a zoom to fit, the visable page zooms out to include a significant area (39" X 80").  I thought there might be a remnant on a layer placed way outside the board outline, but attempts to do a block delete finds nothing.

Generating Gerber files also include this extended area!

Any one know  how to delete all outside the board outline, or anything that would cause this issue?

Thanks for the group's help

Rachael: Good work! The cut, zoom extents, find remnant plan didn't work, because it wanted me to do that with the coupled schematic (couldn't cut). However, the group copy and paste to a new board worked…

    Hi Jerry,

You've actually had two replies in the EAGLE Central mirror but unfortunately it looks like Element 14 have managed to break the link again.... I'll paste both messages below for you:

Try this.. Show all layers. Group a window with all the good stuff.

Cut/Delete it! (Yes, dont worry, you can undo or exit without save to

get back). Then do zoom to fit and see what it is.. Then note down the

    coord, and u

    Hi Jerry,

Did you turn all the layers on when you tried to do the block delete? It could be something an any layer at all so that's something to try.

Alternatively you could try opening two copies of EAGLE and copying all your board design data into a new board. Then close all your EAGLE windows down and with a bit of file renaming to make your new .brd file pair with your old .sch file hopefully it should all still back annotate correctly with the original schematics. Again, make sure you have all the layers switched on and only select and copy anything from the area of the board itself.

Make sure you take backups and keep them safe before doing anything like that though just to be extra safe.

    Best Regards,

    Rachael

Try my first suggestion first, then Mortens suggestions and if all else fails then my second suggestion.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Rachael:

Yes all layers are cut on and I just can't find anything outside the board outline.  I'll do the cut and paste thing and let the group know!

    Thanks!

    Good work!

The cut, zoom extents, find remnant plan didn't work, because it wanted me to do that with the coupled schematic (couldn't cut).  However, the group copy and paste to a new board worked fine and I rename the new PCB with the original name.  Everything's still coupled correctly and I got rid of the "ghost" remnant.  I would love to know what and where it was!

    Thanks again to the group!

    Hi Jerry,

Glad to hear you got it sorted!

If you really want to find out where it was that caused the problem you can copy your schematic and board to a new filename and then perform Mortens suggestion on the copies with the linking in place and you can then cut things without affecting your original design to find out where the rogue bits are.

    Best Regards,

    Rachael
