Multiple Symbols on Multiple Sheets for one Device

Former Member

I have a complex device that I have created multiple symbols for with Eagle 7.6.0.  All of the pins have been linked to one package.  When I add several symbols to one sheet and create a PCB, only one package (device) appears on the PCB.  When I move one of the symbols to another sheet then two packages (devices) appear on the PCB.

By example if I have two symbols named “-A” and “-B”, when both symbols are place on sheet 1 I have two parts that are labeled U$1-A and U$1-B and a PCB with one package.  When I group copy B, delete B from sheet 1 and paste to sheet 2 the resulting symbol is named U$2-B, and results in two packages appearing on the PCB.  If I try to change the name of B to U$1 the program reject this indicating that it already exists.

I have adjusted the Add and Swap settings in the library with no avail.

Do you have any suggestions on how to place multiple symbols on multiple sheets for one device and get just one instance of the package on the PCB?

Thanks!

    Hi Mike,

I hope you're doing well. Everyone always tries to do a group copy when

you should be doing a group move. Even if you are only moving one symbol

you have to group it. It's a very un-intuitive quirk that will hopefully

    be remedied soon.

    Here's the basic process

    1. Group the symbol you wish to move to another sheet.

    2. Click on the Move icon

    3. Hold ctrl then right-click on the part, it should now be attached to

    your mouse cursor.

    4. Click on the sheet thumbnail you want the part to be on.

    5. Now place the part.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

go to the sheet you want the second symbol

"invoke partname" and place the symbol
