Hi
Please advise how one could switch of the <MODULE>:<NUMBER> type numbering of components on PCB's? to only show the <NUMBER> - as well as how to renumber across hierarchical designs?

Unfortunately this is not currently possible, it's one of the major drawbacks with the way module functionality is implemented. The best thing you can do at the moment is name your modules with really concise names so that your reference designator length is minimized but even then, on dense boards with small components, even with the tiniest of writing, it can be impossible to place everything so you have a tidy and readable silkscreen. For me this issue (amongst several others if I am being honest) has severely limited the usefulness of this feature to me in my designs.

Thanks - appreciate the answer
I've changed the module/hierarchical structure back to a flat structure.....
Hi,
you can change the naming of components (not of the signals) in
hierarchical designs,
if you define an "Offset" in the Properties of the module instance.
See HELP MODULE.

Hi Richard,
Is this new functionality? If not how did I miss this previously?! It's not perfect but it certainly makes things possible for some smaller designs.
The problem will come when trying to do large designs with multiple different modules. I think it'll rapidly become impossible to get this to work without causing part number conflicts. For this reason, having the option to just number parts as if it were a flat design but maintain the ability to manipulate as a hierarchical block would make this much more useful.

Hi Rachael,
no this is not new. It came with V7 and the hierarchical design. Don't

Hi Richard
I'd read through the help on the hierarchical design functionality previously so I thought I would have noticed this! Was is maybe not fully documented initially and only updated at a later time? I'm clutching at straws here as to why I missed something so obvious!
However, even though it does allow the NAME:REFDES format to be reduced to just REFDES, because of the way it works on anything but the simplest of designs with one or two modules it'll be next to unusable without creating loads of conflicts, especially when modifying designs at a later date and adding new instances of existing modules, I think it'll just end up a mess. Would it be possible to give the option so that parts within modules get renumbered as if they were part of a flat design please? This would make the hierarchical design functionality really useful for larger designs, where it would actually give the most benefit.
I'll also pop something up as a suggestion in the new Autodesk EAGLE forums at some point, along with some other suggestions I have for improving hierarchical design.
Best Regards,
Rachael

Hi Rachel,
we know that there have to be improvements with hierarchical design.
There are already plans made how it has to look like. At the moment I
do not know exactly what the changes will be, but I am sure that our
support team noticed your post and will draw conclusions of it.
Have a great day.
Richard
