Non-rectangular board shape

paulr54

From earlier versions of Eagle, I remember the way to define the outline of your board was to draw it on the 'Dimension' layer. When I try this on Eagle 8.3, the area I want to keep is grayed out, as if it's a cutout in a rectangular board.

I see the release notes mention a 'Board Shape Editor', but I can't find any information about this anywhere.

How do I define the shape of my board? Thanks.

Can you show us a picture of what you are seeing please? It should work the same as previously but it uses different colours for the board area and the area outside of the board to differentiate the board shape so you can see it clearly.

    Best Regards,

The gray circle is my PCB, the gray border represents the area outside the working area.

I think the area outside the PCB should be grayed out; not inside it.

Ah, I just realised I can delete the outer bounding box from the dimension layer of my design, and then the circle becomes the board perimeter. Problem solved.

It's all part of the Fusion 360 integration. The idea is you create the board shape in Fusion and bring it into EAGLE. I've not tried that out myself yet as I need to learn Fusion 360.

You can find out more about it in the blog article here: https://www.autodesk.com/products/eagle/blog/fusion-360-integration-eagle/

Or watch the YouTube videos which take you through the process here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1rOC5j_Fyi6B0wRJw2GAVEjE_dNR7rlK

    Best Regards,
