Noob question on renaming library elements

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 17 years ago

I have just started to use Eagle.   I want to make custom libraries with

parts from my BOM.  I have located a ULP called rename-in-lbr, but cannot

make it work.   What I am trying to do is duplicate a complete part and

rename it.  For example, I am trying to use the LT1366 dual op amp to make

an LT1490 - same footprint and symbol.   All that needs to change is the

name and description.  I find library management in Eagle to be a pain.

Maybe I am missing something.

    Sentence 2: try exp-project-lbr.ulp

Sentence 4+: COPY the part in the schematics.

    Sentence 7: I agree.

The library management can be a pain, but it is worthwhile working your way

around it.  There are a few issues here.

For a simple dual op amp just make a new device, selecting the symbol and

package that already exist.  If you are doing this in your own lib rather

than the origianl the part can be copied over very easily, by opening your

lib, then going to the control panel, browsing the lib containing the part

you want to copy and then selecting the appropriate part and right clicking,

    and selecting copy to lib.

My second issue would be a matter for personal preference, but for generic

footprint and pinpout opamps I always just use a general purpose dual op amp

part and then give it the appropriate name.  This saves having a immense

amount of different parts in your libs for components which are identical in

all but name. A little bit like not having each individual resistor value

    with its own part.

    cheers

    David
