Eagle "Light" and Auto-routing?

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 17 years ago

I bought a license for "Eagle Light" as described

on the "Prices" page:

EAGLE Light (Limitations: 1 schematic sheet, 2 signal layers, 100x80mm routing area)

Module      1-User

LayoutSchematicAutorouter      US$ 49.-

I have a small board project that I designed originally with the "free" version

of Eagle.

I specifically mentioned on the phone that I wanted to do auto-routing.

When I try to used "Tools/Auto..." a MessageBox comes up that says:

"The Light edition of EAGLE can't perform the requested action!

See Help for further details."

I see nothing in the Help file indicating why it doesn't work.

I thought I would have access to an "Autorouter" as indicated on

the "Prices" page.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Howard

    Howard,

You do get the Autorouter, you just need to place your components within the

board area limits of the Light Edition and then EAGLE will route it for you. At

the moment you have generated a board from schematic but haven't yet placed the

components within the board area of 100 mm x 80 mm from the origin marker.

When you buy a license you also get access to free technical support from

CadSoft, they would have been able to tell you what was wrong with a quick call.

The EAGLE tutorial takes you through the steps of generating a board and placing

the components into the board area - it is stated explicitly at the top of p50

that you need to do this for the autorouter function.

    Regards, Philip.

Never mind.  I see the problem.  There really is no

"Autorouter" for the "Light" version (unless you want

to count the rats-nest router which would be a real stretch!)

Apparently the ONLY reason anyone would even bother to purchase the

"Light" version license is if they didn't need anything more than

the "free" version but wanted to sell some board they created and routed

the hard way, i.e., without using an autorouter.  You get exactly

the same feature set whether or not you buy a license.

I don't even want to sell a board!  I created a circuit, for my

own use, that provides stepper-motor focusing for a Meade

LX-200 telescope.  Totally electronically compatible with the

meade control signals so I can use their  RS-232RS-232 interface to

control the stepper.  I created one board and did point-to-point

    wiring of a radio-shack board.  I thought I would now create a

better board because I need one more board to control another

telescope.  Circuit is not that big.  34 parts.  Just a pain

    to hand-route...

Anyway, I am not happy that the "Prices" page says that

you get an "Autorouter" when, actually, you don't!

    Highly irritating!

Thanks and sorry for bothering you people on this list...
