eagle 5.0.0 - open with problem [Win Xp]

esilviu
esilviu over 17 years ago

as with an older beta version, windows can't correctly asociate .sch, .brd

or .lbr with eagle.exe.

"eagle" it's not listed in "Open with" list of applications, and it's not

added with "Browse" button.

Solved manually, with regedit:

-

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

@="\"C:
Program Files
Electro
EAGLE-5.0.0
bin
eagle.exe\" \"%1\""

-

after this, eagle is in "open with..." list

    Hi;

messing around with the Win registry can be a bit of an adventure for

experienced users and a disaster for the less familiar.

Highlighting the file name and Right-Click or otherwise get to the open-with

menu.  Enter the folder where eagle.exe is and be sure to Check the littlt

box to always open the file type with Eagle.  Using the Win Open-With

dialog is very safe and will always open the files with the selected .EXE

When the dialog closes it makes the required reg entries.

    regards,

    Brownie

Ease up there, no need to get so upset and start shouting about it

I believe the browse option, when right clicking the file, does not work as

there will already be an eagle entry in the open with window options, and

windows won't like having a duplicate.

However you still do not need to go delving into the registry and can indeed

browse to the eagle v 5 program using a slightly different approach

The alternative is to open windows explorer, select Tools- folder options-

    file types.

Now find your entry for brd - open it click on advanced option- select open

and edit, then you CAN BROWSE to the eagle v 5 directory and change the

    default open program.

    cheers

    David

tryied this ay too, and guess what?! :  it did'n work either.

I can set-up the .sch to be opened with any other exe file, but not with

eagle.exe. Windows seems not to accept eagle.exe in "open with" list.

And all that I've changed in registry is

    @="\"C:
    Program Files
    Electro
    EAGLE-4.90
    bin
    eagle.exe\" \"%1\""

    with

    @="\"C:
    Program Files
    Electro
    EAGLE-5.0.0
    bin
    eagle.exe\" \"%1\""

Eagle installer seems unable to update this key, and this key (wrong value)

seems to block windows to assign ".sch"... to "eagle.exe"

    Well there you go.

Strangely enough I've always had Eagle as an "open with" option, after

associating brd files with it manually by the above method I believe.. but

it was a long time ago.

In this case to test with v5 I only did the above with brd files and it

works without any problem.  Were you also unable to achieve an association

with brd files with this method or did you only try .sch files

.sch files are a little trickier, due to windows existing built in

association for this type... although "open with" eagle does pop up as an

option for me, it is for eagle v 4.16. there is no problem for associating

v4.16 eagle with .sch files.. but that's not the real issue

I could get rid of v4.16 and try from scratch with v5, and would be fairly

confident of it working on this set up, but as I have no current plans on

moving to v5 I'm not about to go down that route.

And all that I've changed in registry is

    @="\"C:
    Program Files
    Electro
    EAGLE-4.90
    bin
    eagle.exe\" \"%1\""

    with

    @="\"C:
    Program Files
    Electro
    EAGLE-5.0.0
    bin
    eagle.exe\" \"%1\""

seems to block windows to assign ".sch"... to "eagle.exe"

That would be an issue to bring up with cadsoft. I'm not sure that they even

    try to modify the registry

Still it's always good to have a couple of different options when wishing

    to do these things

    cheers

    David
