Eagle 5.0.0 crashes randomly in WinXP

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 18 years ago

Eagle 5.0.0 crashes randomly. It has done it over ten times. I've

re-installed and it still occures. Appears to be no pattern. Crashes when I

am not using it, browsing in library, editing a circuit. It appears to be

entirely random

AppName: eagle.exe  AppVer: 0.0.0.0  ModName: unknown

ModVer: 0.0.0.0  Offset: 100011f5

Any help greatly appreciated.

Well, ran the memory tests, No anomalies, so that's good.  I was kind of

hoping that would be it.  Is anyone else having an issue like this with 5.1?

    Thanks for any inputs.

Just crashed again.  Tried to add a USB connector to the pcb.  Got an

error saying "No back annotation will be performed, please add this

    from

schematics." or something similar.  This is weird because I was in the

schematic when I hit the Add Parts icon.  Then Eagle completely locked

up, and I get a Windows error again.

What type of information do you need from us to help you resolve this.

We have to get this fixed, I've lost so much time with this issue with

    losing

15-20 minutes worth of work each time.  Please advise.

Eagle 5.1.0 Crashes Randomly with XP.  This has happenned about 10

    to 15

times in the last week.  I am running Eagle 5.1 on WinXp and for no

apparent reason Eagle crashes and dumps me out to Windows.  No

    chance to

save anything, just dumps out.  Cumulatively, I've lost several

    hours

worth of work due to this.  Please advise.....

KLS: wasn't there this weird report about memory access violations

etc.? What about it? Is this to be taken seriously, maybe?

We have found three problems that might cause crashes:

      - Fixed a crash when changing the grid color while a library is

      open

without having edited a particular package, symbol or device set,

yet, and the grid is actually displayed.

      - Fixed a crash when entering a curve parameter (like "@+20") in a

    command

that works with wires, without an actual wire attached to the

        cursor.

      - Fixed a possible data corruption after changing the coordinates

      of an

object or the layer of a wire in the properties dialog, in case

this resulted in a wire optimization.

These will be fixed in version 5.1.1.

Sounds awfully hardware related.  Get a copy of "Memtest @ memtest.org"

Could you please try our current beta 5.0.3? There is one

    issue concerning crashes solved.

I have downloaded and copied the beta 5.0.3 files over the 5.0.0 install.

It still crashes, but not as quickly or as often.

Any suggestions on how I can help narrow down the cause of crashes?

The first step is to try to get out how to reproduce the crash.

Do you have a certain procedure that provokes it?

I was attempting to find a method for consistent crashing - its very random.

Previously I had never actually closed Eagle properly, always restarting it

from a crash. Opening up some libraries, it looked like it was doing some

updating or converting. I then closed properly and restarted, it has not

crashed since (after creating a library, creating and copy

components/devices, create a circuit and board).

    It appears stable now.

Perhaps the work around was to browse libraries, close normally (rather than

    wait for crash), and re-open.

    Thank you,

    Roger
