Converting from ExpressPCB

Hi,

 

I have been using ExpressPCB for a few year with decent results, however,

I'm beginning to think that I'm beating my brains out with all of its

limitations.

 

I don't have much time to convert over, but I'm thinking that now might be

the right time.  How long does it take to get up to speed and do a new

layout with Eagle??

    That is a hard question to answer. Just download the demo and do the

    tutorial.

    The Eagle User interface is efficient but not like a standard windows.

    Once you learn how it works it is works.

    All of questions a new user will have are in the FAQ, online manual or

    in the newsgroups. The major problem finding answers will be using the

    correct keyword(s) for searching.

    To access all of the data in the news groups you need to configure your

    reader to download all of the records not just the last 30 days. If you

    also set up the reader for off line viewing it will download all of the

    bodies of the messages and allow searching the whole message not just

    the subjects.

     

    A few of the pitfall for the new user.

    Use net not wire for connections.

    Copy duplicates a single item.

    Cut and Paste use the group.

    Cut does not delete but duplicates the group.

     

    If you can't find a menu item to do something there is a ULP that covers

    that missing function.

     

    A few of the pluses.

    The command line, scripts and ULP's allow anything to be done.

    In the for what it's worth dept.  We switched from ACEL PCB many years ago.

    Eagle is definitely worth the time to learn.  From a cost to performance

    view it is the best productivity for the min, $.  AND the company is the

    best around.  The response to these News Group postings is outstanding,

    both from users and company personnel.  Take Paul's suggestion and give it

    a try.  The tutorial was what convinced us to convert in 1997.  Like a fine

    wine Eagle just keeps getting better with time.
