Eagle 4.16r1 - symbol NAME and VALUE do not appear on schematic

Hi All,

I'm trying to understand and document a design performed by another company (a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away . . .)  I have Eagle 4.16 that was used to create the schematics and boards.  The original designers are long gone.

I can bring up the schematic without problem; however, in 9 instances the NAME and VALUE information does not show on the schematic.  The information is in the file because the names & values appear when I click on those buttons and then click on the respective part.  I've "poked around" in all the menus and tried different things to no avail.  I've read through the user's manual and tried to find some web posts, also with no avail.

I would appreciate any hints or advice to help me figure out how to repair this situation.

Thanks,

Nick . . .

    Hi Nick,

I'm willing to bet that those instances are custom made components. What

probably happened is that whoever made the library for those components

forgot to include place holders for the NAME and VALUE parameters.

I came in with version 5, so I'm not familiar if version 4.16r2 had the

exp-project-lbr.ulp. This ULP extracts the libraries from the schematic

and board files. You would then correct the offending part in the

library. In my personal experience, this ULP works best when you allow

    it to create multiple libraries.

Once the library has been corrected you can then use the Update in the

schematic editor, and that should allow you to see the names and values

    of your components.

    Best Regards,

    Best Regards,

Provided that all layers are turned on and you still can't see

name/value then I'm with Jorge about custom libraries image

However if you have exported the used libraries with the ulp and correct

them, the "library update" wouldn't help you, because eagle is still

updating the original used library which you have not changed.

The easiest way is of course to correct the libraries if they still

exist. Cut name/value from a good part and paste, paste, paste...
