Moving some (not all) parts of a multipart component to another sheet?

I have created a few components that are composed of several schematic blocks - e.g. FPGAs where power connections are on one symbol, JTAG and programming ports on another, and all the IO banks as separate symbols. The problem is that I couldn't get them all to fit within the A3 drawing frame - and since they are separate symbols, that should not represent too much of a problem - so I need to have some on a different page.

 

I have tried the cut - delete - paste procedure, but that still created a new component designator for the moved symbols, and merging them back together by using the "Name" tool was not possible. Does anyone know how to go about this?

    I figured it out!

     

    Select a block, use the move tool with ctrl-right click, switch sheets and the block is moved into the other sheet. Component designators seem correct.

    You can also delete the "gate" from the initial sheet, then "invoke" it

    on the new one. That has to be done at the command line, though, because

    the new sheet doesn't have any of the component present to click on! But

    this method works on older versions, while ISTR the method you found is

    v5 only.
