How to place pads for wire connection

I am migrating from a very old version of Protel where I could just place a pad not tied to a component for the purpose of soldering a wire into it.  I could then edit the pad for hole size, layers, etc.  The closest thing I can find in Eagle is to just draw a via.  When I do this though, I can not define an electrical connection to it as it gives the error "no object selected".  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello John,

     

    Use a device from the wirepad.lbr for that. If none of the 'devices' (just 

    a pad with 1 electrical connection) suits your purpose you can use this as 

    an example of how to modify or create one yourself.
