Print ERC Results

Former Member

Hi,

Is it possible to some how get a text or formatted print of the ERC results. Some legitimate ERC warnings need to be documented. I do not see any menu that allows me to do that. Please help.

Many Thanks,

A SAVANTH

There is no way to do that currently.  Same for DRC errors.  Nor is there

any way that I know of to get to them using the ULP language.  I've put the

request in before that these lists of errors/warnings be able to be saved

    out to file.

EAGLE doesn't provide any function for that. Neither do lots of other

programs, where one also wants to save things on screen.

For purposes like that, some screen shot programs provide a decent

functionality. E.g., the ability to take a screen shot of a scroll box

that is larger than the screen (and things like that).

    I myself like 'SnagIt' (http://www.techsmith.com).

If I need something for documents I use screen shots. But that is

certainly not the way the cookie crumbles...

I cannot speak for Version 4 or 5, but with Eagle 3.53 you can print the

    result of ERC.

Using screenshots is a work-around. But difficult to use. I can't believe it was in 3.53 and they decided to take that out for 4 & 5.  Sven, Can you please describe how you were printing it out in version 3.53? May be the method still works.

Yes. This is because in version 3.x, the ERC just produces a TEXT file.

This can easily be printed, but is REALLY a pain somewhere if you want

to FIND the errors on screen to correct them.

In versions >=4, the ERC has a NICE window on its own, and you can

easily jump to the error location with a mouse click. MUCH better than

before! But on the other hand, you cannot directly print its output

    anymore...

running ERC opens a text window with the results. Its looks like any

usual editor window with the possiblities of saving, printing etc.

I do remember, that very long ago in an earlier eagle version this text

window did not allow printing. Several users asked for this possibility

    and cadsoft added it.

The ERC is WAYS, WAYS better now than previously, because it is an

interactive window that takes you to all the errors immediately, so

correcting them is a breeze. MUCH quicker and nicer than having to look

through a text file and look up the grid coordinates yourself.

The ONE thing that cannot be done easily anymore is printing, but I MUCH

prefer being able to correct errors quickly to the printing capability

(I never wanted to print it, anyway).

Thanks Sven. I agree with Andreas on finding errors. If I had to choose between printing and locating the errors, I would prefer the latter. The problem is that with some legitimate errors, we can approve and move on. The end customers will need to be aware of the errors that have been over-ridden. So prints are necessary. May be Cadsoft can generate a duplicate text file of the ERC and DRC errors in the project directory.
