How can I use dimension tool to get distance between two vias?

I've been experimenting with the new dimension tool in V6. I want to show the distance between two vias. The vias are used as holes for screws that attach to an enclosure. The dimension tool seems to work only on objects that are on the dimension layer (20). How can I get the dimension tool to show dimensions of objects on other layers?

    I had the same problem. I solved in this way:

     

    1. with info command write down the coordinate of both vias

    2. draw a line on layer 20 between the two points

    3. using the dimension tool create the dimension of the dummy line

    4. delete the dummy line

     

    I know it's a workaround, any CAD but EAGLE permits to define the snap

    points type of the dimension marks (edge, center, hole, etc...).

    The manual says to hold the CTL key. Does that do what you need?

    As far as I know it works only for on-grid objects.
