Is there a way of naming nets sequentially on clicking on the net(s). What I have in mind is using a common name with a following number eg KEY1,KEY2,KEY3 etc. to identify each net.

nothing built-in, but one could write a small ULP to reduce the work
to pressing a funktion key between clicks

If they are sequential using a bus may simplify the drawing. This should
give a drop down list when starting from the buss.
