How do you copy a component from Schematic to Library

Hi,

complete newbie to Eagle CAD here. I have searched the net and done some experimenting of my own, however I have been unsuccessful in finding a way to easily add an existing component (from somebody elses schematic) to a library. A am able to easily copy/paste the symbol over to my schematic, however any attempt to copy/paste from a schematic to a library fails. An ideal option would have been to be able to right click on a component and select "save to library" and then selecting the desired library, but oh well. It also appears to me (though I may be wrong) that although the library treats a component in a library as a single entity containing a schematic and PCB footprint (very good idea) it does not have some means of addressing the component in its entirety (bad idea). EG copy and paste component from schematic to library, or from one library to another.

I have read some tutorials online, however some of them are out of date, and some have steps that simply refuse to work for my version (revision 5.11.0). This is the free version that downloads under Ubuntu. I wish to try out Eagle first before purchasing it, and it appears I cannot therefore lay my hands on a more recent version.

Regards,

Graham

You can copy library parts from one library to an other, but not from a

sheet to a library since the parts are "embedded" into the sheet.

So you must first "release" them from sheet. You can do that by using an

ULP which is included in eagle. With your sheet open run the

exp-project-lbr.ulp to create a library with all the parts from your

sheet. (Just click the ulp button at the very top and select the ulp)

How a copy from ibrary to library is done is explained a few hundred

times in www and in the manual.

Have a look into the eagle doc directory and work though the tutorial.
