Eagle 6 lbr conversion?

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Hi,

I recently had to go back down to Eagle 5, as 6 would constantly crash during layouts and now my custom libraries no longer work in 5. Has 6 done some sort of conversion on them? And if so, does anyone know of a way to get them working back in 5?

Thanks,

By default, nearly EVERY new version of nearly EVERY software on earth

changes its file format to adjust for new program features. EAGLE is no

exception: The file format from version 6 cannot be read back in version

    5 (or from 5 to 4, or 4 to 3, etc.).

If there are no backups of the old versions, you are in a lot of

trouble, because EAGLE doesn't support the saving in old file formats.

With LOTS of work, you can do the following:

      1. With EAGLE 6, export the library as a script file. This script

file can NOT be read directly with EAGLE 5, because it contains

functions not available in version 5 (e.g., text alignments).

      2. With a text editor, search for these new functions and throw

them out of the script file.

      3. In EAGLE 5, create a NEW library and execute the changed script

file there. If no new functions are available in the script,

the library (minus thosw new functions) should be reconstructed.

Save the newly created library under the name of choice.

      4. This needs to be done with ALL relevant libraries separately.

For convenience, NEVER, EVER, start using ANY new software without

keeping backups of all the older files - you might need them later on.

Only after using the new software version for, say, about a year, you

can think about throwing the old files away. Before EAGLE 5, you could

use more or less ANY new EAGLE version without problems, because it was

so extremely correct and stable. Unfortunately, since version 5, the

update situation is not better than with other software - too bad...

What cave have you been living in for the last year?  Yes, Eagle 6 uses

totally different file formats.  In general, new versions can read old

files, but old versions can't read new files.  Eagle 6 is no different.

I don't think so.  Just go back to your old libraries.

Maybe you can export some things to scripts, then run those scripts on

Eagle 5, but there are probably problems with this.
