Can't edit board

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

Hello,

After creating my PCB and routing some wires, I changed some connections in the schematic and added a few more parts. When I go editing my board, it automatically places all new parts at the axes origin (one on top of the other) but when I try to move them, it doesn't let me. EAGLE always says that I am placing the parts outside the PCB area, even when I do it properly. I can't move any other part, or wire either.

I unrouted everything, checked the PCB limits for the Light edition and still not working. Could anyone help me on this?.

    Hello,

It happened to me as well at some occasions that the PCB editor either miss- synch with the schema or just F@#ed up.

You said you ripped it all up, so I guess you don't mind to start over.

    1. Delete the .brd file

    2. Go to your Schema and press the board button (fifth button from left with a gate and an "IC" on it).

    3. Answer Yes on the creation question.

Now you get a new fresh board with a new fresh .brd file.

    Max,

Thanks for your response. I have unrouted the PCB several times and I did what you suggested. However I've lost so much time doing that and I thought there was a solution for it..

I did same thing as directed above.  I cannot move any components even adding another components, still cannot move it.   What a waste of time using 6.2.0!

I think you just need to set up the grid resolution to the finest one. That worked for me.

HEY!  That works!, by default, the grid settings is set to zero. I set it to .25 and it is moving!  Thanks very much.

Editted: anything above zero works, .25 is ok, changed it to .0125 much better in precise layout of the components.

    Hi,

I think you're talking about light version. Is it correct?

It is with all versions actually. Anyway, this specific problem was just setting up the grid resolution to the smallest one.

I have never experienced such issue with professional version since 6.0, regardless of grid dimensions. I tell you this because on the light version you have limited dimensions.

My problem that time was that I had edited the board with the smallest resolution the first time, saved it and closed it. Then, when I reopened the program, it did not automatically set up the grid to the lowest resolution value, so the objects couldn't be moved. It was more of an attention problem than a bug or license limitation (I am aware of those). I don't know whether this was Robert's problem though.

BTW I only tried the Freemium and Light versions. Maybe it doesn't happen with the full version as you say.

    Hi Guys,

Don't use the Finest setting, as long as the grid is set to a non-zero

value everything will work. This can especially problematic if you're

    working with the schematic.

See the EAGLE cheat sheet www.cadsoftusa.com-> Downloads -> Documentation.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia
