Grouping an arbitrary set of components

Is there a way to group or select an arbitrary set of components?

For example, I would like to move a group of capacitors away from a larger collection on the board.  If I use the group command (selected by the polygon) I wind up with every component within the polygon.

What I'm hoping for is something like holding down the control key in windows and making multiple selections of items (they don't have to be close to each other and items in-between can be skipped).

Is there a way to group items together without using a polygon?

Thanks Warren.  I've never noticed that "Extending the group" functionality before.

Is there a way to "stick" the group command on until all components are chosen?

In my quick test the group command turns off after a selection -- not a big deal but it does slow things down when selecting a large number of spread out components.

The next paragraph of the HELP attempts to explain that

Click  the GROUP icon and then with CTL+SHIFT click the other objects you

wish to add or remove from the group
