Selective printing

I have been asked if I can print out the silk screen with only the test points visible.  The PCB has many parts and over 50 TPs. They would like to be able to just see the TPs so they can find them quickly while testing. Been using Eagle for a long time and have never been asked this one before. Any ideas?

You could modify the library part to add what you need to another layer

and you could turn on that layer and whatever else you need to print for

    that.

    Doug,

That is a good idea, but only gets me half way there. I can put an outline of the pad on an unsed layer but the names that reside on the names layer are still all or nothing.

Can you add the variable >NAMES to the library part on the new layer?

    Doug,

Another good idea, but >NAME doesn't seem to work on anything but the names layers, oh well.

    It works perfectly for me.

    I use/misuse the variables a lot.

Take a look at panelize.ulp.  The salient feature I would like to point

out is that it copies all the texts on tnames to layer 125, and all the

texts on bnames to layer 126.  You could extract this segment of code to

filter out only TP elements, and copy the name of just those elements to

a user defined layer and display just that layer.  Your code could also

add a square that overlays the SMD pad to that same layer.

Additionally, you can create two user-defined layers and have all your

bottom test points on one layer, and all your top test points on another.

The bottom line is that it is possible, but may take a hour of ULP

    programming to accomplish.

Look around line 93 in panelize.ulp (as distributed with 6.2) which

collects names, and the Text function at line 65 that prints the names

on the same layer number plus and offset of 100.  Thus names on layer 25

are copied to layer 125, and names on layer 26 are copied to layer 126.

    HTH,

        - Chuck
