Reading schematics file with both Mac and Windows OS

Anyone else having issues opening a schematic generated by a Windows version of eagle with the Mac version of Eagle?

If not, then what am I doing wrong or what could be the issue?

Basically I generated a schematic on the PC version of Eagle (6.3). I tossed it in a dropbox folder and when I tried to open the schematic on a Mac (6.3), it errors out. I tried opening the schematic from a different windows 7 computer, and it opened the schematic fine.

Thanks in advance.

There's a well known difference betweeen Win Mac Linux

I suspect Cadsoft will likely need to change some code so that  the  "end of

line / new line" style is detected from the XML being read and handle the

    read appropriately.

    Hi Ben,

I run all three types of machines here in the office Windows XP, Ubuntu

Linux 10.04, and Mac OS 10.7.4 and I have no issues moving files from

one machine to another could you send the files to

    support@cadsoftusa.com and I'll give them a look.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

Issue has been solved, it turns out it was a permissions issue for anyone else with the same problem. These are the instructions that solved the problem:

    1. Open a terminal session.

    2. Find out where EAGLE's installation directory is located, by default it should be in the applications folder.

    3. Use the cd (change directory) command to work your way to the EAGLE installation folder.

    4. Once your inside EAGLE's installation folder use the ls(list) command to see the contents of EAGLE's installation directory. You should see six folders bin, ulp, scr, lbr, doc, and cam.

    5. Use the ls -l command to give you a more info on the items. The item you're interested is the ownership of the file, you'll notice that for EAGLE's folders the owner is 507 instead of your user id.

    6. What you need to do now is change the ownership of the files to your person. We do this using the chown(change owner) command. The syntax is as follows:

    sudo chown username file1 file2 file3 etc

Since we want to change the ownership of all of the files in the directory it's easier to use a wildcard instead of the typing in the folder names one by one. So the syntax you'll want to use is:

    sudo chown username *

    7. Now you have to cd into each individual folder and repeat step six that way you have ownership of all of EAGLE's files and you can modify them as you wish.

    8. Once this is done you'll have access to all of EAGLE's files with the exception of one, which is EAGLE hidden eaglerc file. This one is a bit of a pain. Use cd .. to back track all the way to your home directory.

    9. Once here type ls -la this will show you the information pertaining to all the files in the directory including the hidden ones. Make sure that you see eaglerc among them. If you do repeat step 6 and you'll be done.

Thank you to Jorge Garcia for solving it!
