Eagle PCB freezes after power crashe

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

I can still use my schematic editor (6.03), but I cannot change anything in my routed PCB area, not even a track to modify it.

I reinstalled a new version of Eagle, nothing changes.

Is there a configuration file somewhere on the machine wich has to be deleted.

ps. none of the components is locked on the PCB.

even if i use the files on another PC , it stays the same.

someone a usefull hint !?

I got this problem a few days ago, with an older version of Eagle, the update did't change anything about that. I started after a power crash on my outlet, after starting everything up , my PCB was frozen.

Question. Does this happens only to the design that was opened when the

power failure appeared? If so, reinstalling Eagle will not have any

effect since the problem is rooted in the board file and not the program

    files.

I have no answer to you as I believe that Cadsoft (Richard) needs to

look at the file and prob. correct a bit or to that might have been

altered when the PC went down..

However. There is a dangerous methode to try to solve this.

I dont know if it works.

1: Take a backup of everything somewhere

2: Make sure you have taken an backup!

3: In the backup folder, Open the faulty board file.

2: Copy everything and close the file

3: Open a new empty board file and past everything into it

4: Save the new board by replacing the existing board file (i.e. same

name in same folder as your schematic)

5: Now, also open the schematic while the board is opened

    6: Check for consistance

Problem here is that I am not sure if copying will result in the same

names and nets, But i think it will be ok if you first open a file, copy

everything, then close the file before opening a new one to past the

copy into. This will be up to you to find out. image

    Good luck

Outwardly it appears there has been a corruption of the board file. As it

is XML I would have expected it to have reported an error and not loaded

the file. If it is corrupted CadSoft needs to see it so these sort of

corruptions are detected. Maybe only the final closing tags are corrupt. If

so you could fix them with a text editor but also doing a save of the board

should fix any element tag issues. Hence I feel this will not be the

    problem.

Just to verify a few points.

You have now loaded the latest 6.3 software

    Other board files work correctly

    The OS is Windows XP/Vista/7

This board file does not work on another PC with Eagle installed.

If the above are all true then I feel the file is oddly corrupted.

You could inspect the BRD file with text editor or xml editor and see if

    the elements/tags are correct.

If the original project folder exists you could find an earlier backed up

    Schematic/Board pair

and work from them. These are the files that would look similar to

MyFile.b#1 MyFile.b#2 and MyFile.s#1 MyFile.s#2 etc. See the manual for an

    explanation.

Gregimage... I tried your solution this morning right away , it worked for 100%, the board is still annotated to the schematic and  I can move and change my board components...... I can even add new ones to the schematic with the correct connections.

PS the names and nets remain all correct.

Thanks a lot, Greg and .....Warren for your supply
