Moving Both sch and brd to a New Project

Former Member
Former Member over 17 years ago

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I don't know what terms to use to

filter out entries:

I'd like to have the ability to transfer an already designed circuit and

layout (such as a power supply) to a new project, rather than always

redesign a new one.  I can cut and paste the sch to the new one, but how do

I transfer the board layout simultaneously?

In essence, a whole library can be made of these a la carte "devices," if

you will.

Any thoughts or references?

As always, thanks in advance!

This one is easy.  Let's say I have a schematic and board, breakfast.sch and

breakfast.brd respectively.  Then, let's say I wish to start a new project

for lunch, needing files lunch.sch and lunch.brd.  The board shape and the

majority of the circuit will be the same, so I can just use what I've

already created for the breakfast project.  Simply right click on

breakfast.sch, and save the copy to the lunch project, simultaneously

renaming it to lunch.sch.  Repeat for breakfast.brd (saving lunch.brd to the

lunch project) and you will have a linked pair of files that will  back

annotate and update just as if you created them from scratch called

lunch.sch and lunch.brd in the lunch project file.
