No Airwaves on Changed Parts

Former Member

Hi there. I'm back using Eagle after being away from it for 5 years. I've got a problem that I just can't seem to solve. I designed a board and had it manufactured and then discovered there were some problems. Starting from that original design, in the schematic I deleted 3 parts and replaced them with different ones. I changed some of the wires as well. The schematic looks good but when I go to the board there are no airwaves going to the 3 new parts. All the other components are still connected. I could really use advise on how to solve this problem.

Thanks much, Justin Mayer

    Hello Justin,

It seems that the parts only look to be connected, but in reality are not.

Try to pick up one of the changed part in the schematic and MOVE it (F7).

Do the nets that should be connected move with it? Have you run ERC?

I could be useful if you told which version you are using.

    Richard

Thanks so much for getting back to me Richard. I'm running Eagle 6.3.0 Mac. You are spot on! They aren't connected. I wonder why? I have been having some strange connection problems that might be caused from changing the grid resolution around but I'm not sure. Isn't there usually a little sound that the computer makes when a connection is made? Then again I'm using a new part that I designed. For all I know there's something wrong with it. But I am now having problems with a connection to a resistor that I didn't before I changed the grid resolution around.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again. Justin

    Hello Justin,

Before the champagne (and other assorted new year goodies) make my answers

    completely useless....

There can be different reasons for nets not connecting. You said you

changed an existing project. If you remove a symbol (that is, on the

schematic) and 'drop in' a new one with identical connections, the nets

won't usually connect. You have to move or extent the nets onto the pins.

MOVING a NET to a SYMBOL works, MOVING a SYMBOL to a NET usually doesn't.

I assume you do use NET not WIRE because you have worked with Eagle before.

Those unconnected pins should be in the output from the ERC. You should

probably run that a couple of times while working on a schematic.

Also, you should not change the grid on the schematic. All Eagle lib's use

0,1" as the standard grid (and that's fine for your own parts also) and

you'll run into more problems than needed if you change that. The grid on

the board can be anything you like.

If you just want to get the parts back onto grid pick 'm up with CTRL+

left click (I guess CTRL is something else on an Apple). That could be the

    trouble with the resistor.

Good luck and a great 2013 to everyone,

    Richard

Thanks Richard. My resolution setting was too high in the schematic window.

    Happy New Year, Justin
