Ultralibrarian import problem

shseidman
shseidman over 12 years ago

In Eagle 6.4, I'm getting an error rmessage "Parameter 'rank' is only valid in board editor" when running a scr generated by Ultralibrarian (free version) from the microchip site, on the file  MCP1700X-XXXXX_MB.bxl.  It seems to stop before generating the polygon for a thermal pad.  Any suggestions?? (Couldn't upload bxl file)

Seems you may be running the script from the Schematic Editor, try running

    it in the Board Editor

OK, I've had a look at the free Ultralibrarian program you mention and the

script file it generates for the MCP1700X-XXXXX_MB

    In a word, unimpressive.

Looking at the script produced I can see the problems you are having and

    others you may have.

Your reported error is because it attempts the following line in the package

    editor.

    Change rank 0;

Which is illegal in the package editor. Remove the line and the script runs

    to completion. But........

The next  issue is the polygon it attempts to draw. It does not end up at

the starting point so the polygon is rejected by Eagle. (never drawn).

Add (-12 -52) to the end of the polygon line (just before the image that will

get you back to the beginning.

So that draws the polygon now but there's another issue

The polygon  does not extend to include the origin of the centre SMD so you

will get DRC errors unless you manually extend it.

Drag the bottom of the polygon down below the centre of the SMD.Its a bit

concealed by the SMD but you can see where the bottom is because the SMD is

    a little wider.

If you have trouble, turn off all layers except layer 1Top

Ultralibrarian is an old program and would not know this is a requirement

    for Eagle v6.

Numerous  (7)  text objects are placed on top of each other. Took a bit of

working out what was going on there. Just drag them apart.

    So there's the answer. HTH

Thanks!  Thought I'd try a little shortcut, and it didn't work out so well.  I guess it's not worth their time to maintain the freeware.  Maybe I'll try running the script in v5.

It will still have the same problem in V5. Ultralibrarian has the problem

It will still have the same problem in V5. Ultralibrarian has the problem

Indeed. When I saw that Microchip claimed to have Eagle libraries for

most of their parts I was very pleased. When I saw the horrendous

garbage that so-called "ultra" librarian generates I dismissed the claim

as utter rot and went on making my own libraries as always.

    Cheers,

    Rob

""This problem has been tested and is correctly working with version

5.3.320.  You can download the latest software directly from Accelerated

    Designs at www.accelerated-designs.com/Beta/ULADI_Reader.exe"

You can use the UL FREE reader to download parts from TI, MicroChip and
