New user Question

Hi,

As a complete newcomer to Eagle, I am having a problem editing an existing part to alter text on the "names" layer when using library editor. I have created a new library for my project and copied the original part into this library. Specifically the original part is a microchip PIC18F66J15 that I wish to modify to a PIC18F65J94 - physically identical but with some of the pin descriptions changed. With my present state of knowledge (or lack of it !!) I would rather not attempt to create the part from scratch.

However I don't seem to be able to access individual text items to edit them.  I assumed that CTRL - SHIFT - N would allow me to select and update individual items, but this appears not to be the case. Am I missing something obvious here?  I would be very grateful for some guidance.

In the library editor a device (part) is made of a package and a symbol.

If you want to edit the names of the pins then you must go to the symbol

that the device is using. If you want to change something on the pads or

the size of the package you must go to the package section of the editor.

The "buttons" to enter those sections of the editor are usually on the

top left side, the "Name" button on the very left.

CTRL - SHIFT - N you can use of course, but I recommend you to use

"Name", because these codes are not standard in eagle and everyone

changes them to suit its own purpose image
