Noob question: How to move a part back off the board

electrooptical

Hi, all,

Just a quick one.  When first starting to lay out a board, all the parts are positioned in an off-board staging area at the left of the screen.  In laying out a fairly tight board of near the maximum dimensions for Standard Edition, occasionally I make a mistake in placing some group of components, and need to move it to another place.

The natural way to do that would be to move the parts back to the staging area, and then move a different clump.  But I can't find a way to do that without either (a) starting over, or (b) deleting the component and putting it back in the schematic.  I can't believe that there isn't a way to do this, but I can't find it.

What's the incantation to take a part off the board and back to the staging area?

Thanks

Phil Hobbs

The mirror command will take care of that.

Use move.  You can drag the part off the board.  You can also do this

from the Eagle command line.  Suppose the part you want to move is R1.

        move R1 (-1in 1in)

which will move the part to Quadrant 2.

You can also group parts with the GROUP command.  You can surround the

parts to group with a rectangle by dragging from one point on the board

to another, or select them with a polygon using multiple clicks around

the components to group, double-clicking to close the polygon.  The use

    MOVE with a Ctrl-click.

    HTH,

        - Chuck

         move R1 (-1in 1in)

That won't work with the free or standard editions. The board area limit

prevents any parts being placed to the left or below the origin, which

can cause confusion since that's where they are initially dropped when

    added to the schematic.
