How to copy and paste layout section

Former Member

Hello,

I know how to copy and paste sections of the schematic in eagle.  But is there some way to do the reverse, to copy and past a section of the layout?  When I copy and past sections on the schematic all the parts wind up in the pile at the bottom of the layout, of course, and have to be re-laid out.  I would like to preserve the layout too while copying and pasting sections of the schematic.

    Hi Bob,

If you're using V6.4.0 use the File -> Import -> EAGLE Drawing command.

This allows you to import an existing board/schematic pair maintaining

    the layout and consistency.

So what you would do is you would draw one copy as it's own board and

schematic pair. You would then in a fresh project use the above command

to copy it into your new designs as much as you want.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

    Hello Jorge,

Thank you for the answer!  Sorry about the delayed reply.  That info will be useful to make essentially small "subcircuits" in the future that could be imported into a larger project.  In my cas I have a fairly large layout already, 80mm x 160mm, and want to copy and past just a small section, maybe a dozen parts or so out of hundreds in the project.  I could probaby make a copy of the project, delete all the parts I don't want, then import and small section, but that sounds like it would be more work than just re-laying out the small section.

Knowing about the importing I'm going to make a few standard subcircuits that I use that I can import when needed.  Very useful!
